US recycling specialist PureCycle Technologies (Orlando, Florida; www.purecycle.com) has been issued a letter of no-objection (LNO) by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA, Washington, DC; www.fda.gov) confirming the company’s PureFive recycled PP resin as suitable for use in food contact, personal care, and cosmetics applications.

PureCycle may procure a wider range of feedstocks for FDA-approved applications, including curbside materials that are sorted for food-grade use. The company purchases both food-grade and non-food-grade feedstocks for its waste purification operations, PureCycle said.

PureCycle holds a global license on a patented solvent-driven purification recycling technology developed by Procter & Gamble (P&G, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA; https://us.pg.com) that removes colour, odour, and other impurities from polypropylene waste. The resultant ultra-pure plastic can be recycled and reused multiple times, the company said.
