Ineos (London; www.ineos.com) has installed a pilot line for the development of recyclable polyethylene and polypropylene packaging films at its R&D centre in Brussels, Belgium. The centrepiece of the multi-million-euro investment is a multi-layer blown film line from the manufacturer, Hosokawa Alpine, Ineos said.

On the new pilot line, Ineos’s Olefins & Polymers Europe division intends to work with customers to develop machine direction orientation (MDO) packaging films to replace difficult-to-recycle multi-layer films made from several materials. The group reports that the first cooperation projects are already in the pipeline.
